Cutting

Phase I – Cutting

A nod to the heritage of the Tree process, we're cutting the 75th Tree with a 2-person hand saw. Carbon off-sets will make the event virtually carbon neutral. Also, we'll replant/re-green the land where the tree comes from and recycle all appropriate materials used during the cutting event. As a visitor to this site, you can help too, by donating $5 to the Conservation Fund to plant a tree in the US.

Lighting

Phase II – Lighting

To illuminate the tree the smart way, we're using the latest in energy efficient LED (Light Emitting Diodes) lighting. Over 30,000 LED will draw a small fraction of the power traditionally required for the tree. A ground breaking permanent array of photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof of 45 Rockefeller Plaza to create a 70Kwh generation station. After the holiday season, the solar "farm" will continue to off-set the energy demandsof Rockefeller Center.

Recycling the Tree

Phase III – Recycling the Tree

In partnership with Habitat For Humanity, the 75th Rockefeller Center Tree will enjoy a second life! After the holiday season, the Tree will be milled, treated and returned to Rock Center as "green" lumber. Tishman Speyer, HFH and The TODAY Show will partner to host a Plaza street volunteer event, where we'll build symbolic door frames that will be used in select HFH building programs in NYC, the Gulf Coast, India and Brazil.
